Overview
Lírica Lado B was an independent opera collective in Buenos Aires dedicated to expanding Argentina’s operatic repertoire through the production of rarely performed and previously unperformed works. Bringing together artists from multiple disciplines, the company developed alternative production models that challenged conventional approaches to opera while fostering collective creation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As a permanent member of the artistic collective, I contributed not only through my credited artistic roles but also to the company’s ongoing organizational and creative development. Working alongside the core team, I participated in production planning, artistic decision-making and the collaborative processes that sustained the organization over seven years.

My Role

As a member of the company’s permanent collective, my responsibilities combined artistic creation with the collaborative work required to sustain an independent opera company.

My work included:

• Support across creative and production processes according to each project’s needs

Working within a small interdisciplinary team meant that artistic and organizational responsibilities were shared, making collaboration a defining aspect of the company’s practice.

Artistic Vision

Lírica Lado B sought to expand the possibilities of opera by presenting works that had never been performed in Argentina—or, in several cases, in Latin America or the Americas. Rather than reproducing the traditional operatic canon, the company explored forgotten repertoire and proposed new ways of engaging audiences with the genre.

Its productions were characterized by the use of unconventional performance spaces, collaborative creation processes and the creative reuse of recycled materials. These choices were not only practical but also aesthetic, challenging inherited ideas about opera while demonstrating that ambitious artistic work could emerge from independent production models.

The company understood opera as a living, contemporary practice, capable of reaching new audiences through experimentation, accessibility and collective artistic work.
