L’arbore di Diana

Vicente Martín y Soler · Lorenzo Da Ponte

Choreographer

Overview
L’arbore di Diana is an opera by Vicente Martín y Soler with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. Produced by Lírica Lado B, the production marked the Argentine stage premiere of the opera, continuing the company’s commitment to rediscovering overlooked works from the eighteenth-century repertoire.

The production reimagined the work through a contemporary scenic language. A visual universe constructed almost entirely from recycled plastic materials transformed the stage into a reflection on theatrical materiality, sustainability and the ephemeral nature of performance.

Context and Artistic Process

The production approached L’arbore di Diana as an opportunity to reconnect a rarely performed eighteenth-century opera with contemporary audiences. While preserving the musical integrity of Martín y Soler’s score, the staging proposed a new visual and physical interpretation, questioning conventional expectations of operatic spectacle.

A defining element of the production was its scenography, constructed from discarded plastic materials. Rather than functioning as an environmental statement, these materials became an artistic language that invited reflection on the relationship between beauty, consumption and the inherently temporary nature of theatre.

As Choreographer, I developed the movement language of the production in close collaboration with Stage Director Diego E. Rodríguez. The choreography sought to integrate dance organically into the dramatic action, creating a physical dialogue between singers, dancers and the visual environment while supporting the playful and mythological atmosphere of Da Ponte’s libretto.

As a member of Lírica Lado B’s permanent artistic collective, I contributed not only in my credited artistic role on this production, but also to the company’s collaborative practice through production planning, organizational coordination and artistic development.
