Overview
La festa del villaggio is a comic opera by Vicente Martín y Soler, with a libretto generally attributed to Ferdinando Moretti. Produced by Lírica Lado B, the production marked the world premiere of the opera in a fully staged production, following only a semi-staged presentation at the Palau de la Música in Valencia in 2006.
Continuing the company’s commitment to recovering neglected Classical-era repertoire, the production reimagined Martín y Soler’s final opera through a contemporary theatrical language while preserving the wit, musical and festive spirit of the original score.

Context and Artistic Process
La festa del villaggio explores the conflict between social obligation and individual desire through a comic plot of disguises, misunderstandings and romantic intrigue. Beneath its light-hearted surface, the opera reveals tensions surrounding authority, class, marriage and freedom—recurring themes in eighteenth-century comic theatre that remain surprisingly contemporary.
The staging expanded these dramatic layers by treating the village celebration simultaneously as a popular festival, a political ceremony and a public ritual of social order.
As Choreographer, I developed the physical language of the production, integrating choreographic composition into the overall scenic structure. Working closely with Stage Director Diego E. Rodríguez, my contribution focused on shaping collective movement, spatial dynamics and the interaction between singers and performers, reinforcing the festive atmosphere while supporting the opera’s comic rhythm and dramatic clarity.
As a member of Lírica Lado B’s permanent artistic collective, I contributed not only in my credited artistic role on this production, but also to the company’s collaborative practice through production planning, organizational coordination and artistic development.
