Overview
Tangueteros was an independent artistic collective that I co-founded with Paola Ayala and Martha Bulgaroni to investigate tango as a contemporary artistic practice. Active between 2006 and 2010, the group developed original works that combined dance, theatre and performance while questioning conventional representations of tango.

Through collective creation, Tangueteros explored new relationships between movement, public space and urban life, using tango as a starting point for artistic experimentation. Over the years, the collective expanded through collaborations with other artists, including Sebastián Poropat and Diego Gojman.

Artistic Vision

Public space was central to Tangueteros’ artistic practice. Rather than treating the street as an alternative venue, we understood the city itself as a performative environment where tango could enter into dialogue with everyday life, architecture and unexpected audiences.

Many of our works unfolded in parks, streets and urban spaces, inviting accidental encounters between performers and passersby. Dancing outside the conventional settings of theatres and milongas allowed us to question where tango belongs, who it speaks to and how it can generate new forms of collective experience.

Our performances combined choreography, theatrical action and site-specific intervention, approaching tango as a living language capable of responding to contemporary social and urban contexts.

Legacy

Tangueteros established the foundations of my long-term artistic research into tango as a contemporary performative practice. The group’s collaborative approach to choreography, theatre and site-specific creation would later continue and expand through Compañía Tragicómica Tanguera and inform my broader work as a director, choreographer and performer.
