Overview
Tartufeta, contra la política neoliberal y berreta is a free adaptation of Molière’s Tartuffe by Diego E. Rodríguez, transforming the classic comedy of hypocrisy and moral manipulation into a contemporary Argentine tragicomedy. Through political satire, popular theatrical forms and live music, the work examines the mechanisms of power, deception and the use of morality as a tool of domination. Produced by Barbados Artes Escénicas and Machado Teatro, the production connected a universal theatrical text with the social and political tensions of contemporary Argentina.

Context and Artistic Process
Tartufeta emerged as an artistic response to the political and social transformations experienced in Argentina following the rise of neoliberal policies through democratic elections. Taking Molière’s Tartuffe as its starting point, Diego E. Rodríguez’s adaptation transformed the original conflict between appearance and truth into a reflection on contemporary forms of power, manipulation and collective responsibility.
The production relocated Molière’s mechanisms of hypocrisy and moral control into a distinctly Argentine context, incorporating elements of gauchesque tradition, popular performance and live music. The adaptation approached the classic text as a living theatrical structure capable of revealing new forms of social and political conflict.
As Associate Director and Movement Advisor, my contribution focused on the physical and scenic dimension of the work, developing the relationship between body, gesture and theatrical rhythm. The process explored how collective movement and performers’ physical presence could reinforce the grotesque and satirical qualities of the piece while supporting the dramatic structure.
Created within the framework of Barbados Artes Escénicas and Machado Teatro, the production continued the company’s exploration of theatre as a space for social reflection, collective creation and dialogue between classical texts and contemporary realities.
