Overview

Nanópera is a creation platform for short-format opera works developed by Barbados, artes escénicas. The programme explores the intersection between artistic and scientific thought through the creation of new works of musical theatre in a “nano” format, defined by their condensed duration and interdisciplinary approach.

The project aims to promote and disseminate local creation in opera by bringing together writers, composers and artists from different fields to develop new forms of contemporary lyric theatre.

Artistic and Cultural Approach

The residency brought together writers and composers through a collaborative process supported by specialists from different fields, including performing arts, science and cultural production.

The concept of “Nanópera” proposes a condensation of opera as a form: a reduced-scale format where artistic experimentation and scientific perspectives meet to generate new approaches to musical theatre.

As Co-Founder and President of Barbados Artes Escénicas, I was part of the company’s artistic leadership, sharing responsibility with Diego Rodríguez for its artistic direction while also contributing to its strategic development, production planning and organizational management alongside my credited role in this production.

Programme Structure

The programme was developed through several interconnected stages:
