Overview
Mujeres Panfletarias (Women Pamphleteers) was a performing arts creation residency developed by Barbados Artes Escénicas and Machado Teatro, focused on exploring the relationship between politics and artistic creation through the perspective of women creators.
The project invited artists from different scenic disciplines to develop new works starting from a “panfletaria” statement: a short political or social proposition capable of reclaiming, questioning or denouncing a conflict or collective concern.
Through a process combining artistic research, reflection and collaborative creation, selected artists received rehearsal time, production support and a space for public presentation, transforming a political statement into a scenic experience.
The project aimed to challenge the supposed opposition between art and politics, exploring instead the ways in which theatrical languages can become spaces for critical thought, dialogue and poetic intervention.
Mujeres Panfletarias was conceived as a space where political reflection and artistic experimentation could coexist, questioning the idea that politically engaged art necessarily reduces aesthetic complexity.
The project explored how personal experiences, social conflicts and collective demands could become the starting point for new forms of performance. By focusing on women creators, the cycle connected artistic production with contemporary feminist movements in Argentina, opening a space to investigate themes such as gender violence, bodily autonomy, inequality, memory and social resistance.
The residency proposed transforming them into scenic languages through theatre, dance, performance, music and interdisciplinary practices.
