Argumentative synthesis
Progress created the social classes and their inequalities, it created class consciousness, and consciousness the struggle for social justice. The capitalist oppressor loves progress but not class consciousness, nor the struggle, much less justice. Torquemada will be the solution. The never old inquisitor will be in charge of disciplining the worker, the student and the humanist bourgeois. He will be the one who decides the life and death of all, confession accepts guilt, death is the state of innocence. We will all be guilty until death proves otherwise.
In a Latin American prison, an author is tortured for his works and his ideas that threaten the "democratic" system of his country. In this same prison other political prisoners live together and share their stories of struggle, diverse and unconnected, while they are not tortured. Torquemada governs all lives, even those of the powerful; but he will never be able to govern the lives of those who fight for a better world. The fate of the capital markets that the bourgeois will defend at the cost of their own lives is also at stake in this prison.
The play does not denounce torture, it denounces the logic of a system that tortures.
